Legal Drama Takes a West Coast Turn as ‘Suits: LA’ Secures NBC Pilot Order

NBCUniversal has given the green light for a pilot of the anticipated “Suits” spinoff, “Suits: LA,” with production set to kick off in late March in Vancouver.
The upcoming series follows the journey of Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who transforms himself into a representative for Los Angeles’ most influential clients. Facing a crisis within his firm, Ted must confront a role he once disdained, surrounded by a dynamic group of characters testing loyalties in both personal and professional realms. As past events resurface, Ted’s decision to leave behind loved ones comes under scrutiny.
While the original “Suits” series ran for nine successful seasons from 2011 to 2019 on the USA Network, it recently experienced a resurgence in popularity after the first eight seasons landed on Netflix. Dominating the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for months, the show broke records for the most No. 1 appearances, thanks to streaming numbers on both Netflix and Peacock.
Notably, the spinoff does not include any of the original cast members, including Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, and Meghan Markle. NBC is yet to reveal the lead star for the new series.
Aaron Korsh, the creator of “Suits,” will take on the role of writer and executive producer for “Suits: LA,” collaborating with David Bartis, Doug Liman, and Gene Klein for Hypnotic, with Victoria Mahoney attached as the director. The studio responsible for the original show, UCP, will produce the spinoff.
