Kriti Sanon Shares Insights on Potential Sequel to Blockbuster “Crew” and Celebrates Gender-Agnostic Cinema

In a recent interview with the news agency PTI, Kriti Sanon, renowned for her role in the hit film “Crew,” offered her perspective on the potential for a sequel to the acclaimed comedy heist. Authored by film writers Nidhi Mehra and Mehul Suri, the script has garnered significant attention, prompting discussions about the sequel’s feasibility.

“People have been loving it. We would genuinely love to be back and do something fun,” expressed Kriti, emphasizing the audience’s pivotal role in motivating filmmakers to explore sequels. She acknowledged the pressure it places on writers while highlighting the audience’s enthusiasm as the driving force behind such endeavors.

Reflecting on the film’s success, Kriti underscored the significance of content-driven narratives transcending gender biases in cinema. “It’s nice to see the response to the content. Then, it doesn’t matter if it’s a man or a woman. It’s just the content that was loved, something which the cinema should actually aim for,” she remarked, advocating for a shift towards gender-agnostic storytelling in the industry.

Moreover, Kriti celebrated the portrayal of strong, multifaceted female characters in “Crew,” noting the rarity of films featuring three women in lead roles spanning different generations. “We haven’t seen a film with three women. Here, you have three women belonging to different generations, almost a decade apart with solid, unique roles,” she observed, expressing delight at the audience’s positive reception of the trio’s chemistry on screen.

In “Crew,” Kriti essayed the character of Divya Rana, contributing to the film’s resounding success alongside co-stars Tabu and Kareena Kapoor. Directed by Rajesh A. Krishnan, the comic heist has garnered widespread acclaim, with its global box office earnings reaching ₹70.73 crore within just four days of release.

As “Crew” continues to captivate audiences worldwide, Kriti Sanon’s insights shed light on the evolving landscape of Indian cinema, where content reigns supreme, irrespective of gender stereotypes, paving the way for more inclusive and engaging narratives.
