Kevin Spacey Acquitted in U.K. Sexual Assault Trial

On July 26, 2023, two-time Oscar-winning American actor Kevin Spacey was acquitted of nine counts of sexual assault by a jury in Britain.

The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that following over 12 hours of deliberation over almost four weeks of evidence and testimonies, the jury at London’s Southwark Crown Court announced the verdict.

The ‘House of Cards’ actor teared up as the ‘not guilty’ verdict was pronounced and thanked the jury on Wednesday, which also marked to be his 64th birthday.

Associated Press reported that following the verdict, outside Southwark Crown Court, Kevin Spacey said,

“I imagine that many of you can understand that there’s a lot for me to process after what has just happened today. I am enormously grateful to the jury for having taken the time to examine all of the evidence and all of the facts carefully before they reached their decision.”

Kevin Spacey pleaded not guilty to nine charges from four different males that included multiple counts of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent, all of them dating between 2001 and 2013.
