Political Drama Unveils Dark Chapter of Indian History

The much-anticipated release date for Kangana Ranaut’s next film, “Emergency,” has been announced. On Tuesday, Kangana shared a new movie poster on Instagram, where she portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The poster shows her looking away from the camera, adding to the enigmatic aura. The film is set to premiere on September 6, 2024, as highlighted in the caption: “The Beginning of the 50th Year of Independent India’s Darkest Chapter, Announcing #KanganaRanaut’s #Emergency In Cinemas on 6th September 2024. The Explosive Saga of The Most Controversial Episode of The History of Indian Democracy, #EmergencyOn6Sept in cinemas worldwide.”
The release date was moved during last month’s Lok Sabha Elections. In “Emergency,” Kangana not only stars as the lead but also takes on the roles of writer, director, and producer. The film is produced by Manikarnika Films Production and was initially scheduled for a November 24, 2023 release but faced multiple delays.
Kangana previously commented on the film, stating, “Emergency is one of the most significant and darkest chapters in our history that young India needs to know. It is a crucial story, and I want to thank my super-talented actors like late Satish ji, Anupam ji, Shreyas, Mahima, and Milind for embarking on this creative journey together. I am excited to bring this extraordinary episode from India’s history to the big screen. Jaihind!”
“Emergency” is poised to depict a pivotal moment in Indian political history. The cast includes notable names such as Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, and the late Satish Kaushik. Produced by Renu Pitti and Kangana, the film is backed by Zee Studios, with music by Sanchit Balhara and screenplay and dialogues by Ritesh Shah.
