Kalki Koechlin Reflects on Past Polyamorous Relationships, Admits It Was a Phase of Exploration

The actress opens up about her younger years, past relationships, and why polyamory no longer fits her current life as a wife and mother.

Kalki Koechlin, known for her memorable roles in films like Dev D and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, recently revealed personal details about her past relationships. In an interview with Hauterrfly, the actress admitted to having been involved in polyamorous relationships during her younger years, before she was interested in settling down.

Reflecting on her past, Kalki shared that she experimented with polyamory, a lifestyle where individuals have multiple romantic partners, often with established rules and boundaries. She acknowledged that, while some people successfully balance polyamory with a family life, it’s not something she could envision for herself today.

Kalki explained, “It was a very different time in my life. I was younger, not ready to settle down, and it was more of an experiment in relationships.” She added that such relationships generally don’t go too deep and usually don’t involve people from one’s immediate social circle.

Now happily married to her partner, Guy Hershberg, with whom she shares a daughter, Sappho, Kalki admitted that her priorities have shifted. “I’m married and have a child now, so I simply don’t have time for that lifestyle anymore,” she said.

Kalki, who was previously married to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap before their separation in 2013, emphasized that her past experiences were part of her growth. However, polyamory is no longer something she seeks as she has settled into a more traditional family structure.

Her candid reflections offer a glimpse into her evolution both personally and professionally, as she continues to navigate life on her own terms.
