Kahaani 3 in the Works: Vidya Balan and Sujoy Ghosh Reunite for Thrilling Sequel

Original Cast Members Expected to Return as Script Gets Green Light

Renowned actress Vidya Balan, celebrated for her versatile performances in films like Parineeta, The Dirty Picture, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, has a special fondness for her role in the 2012 thriller Kahaani. Directed, co-produced, and co-written by Sujoy Ghosh, the film also featured Parambrata Chattopadhyay in a pivotal role. Its success led to a 2016 sequel, Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh, starring Balan alongside Arjun Rampal.​

Recent reports suggest that the much-anticipated third installment, Kahaani 3, is progressing, with a finalized script that has received Vidya Balan’s approval. According to Filmfare, director Sujoy Ghosh has locked the script, and discussions are underway to bring back original cast members, including Parambrata Chatterjee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Indraneil Sengupta, and Saswata Chatterjee.

While official confirmations are pending, an earlier interview sheds light on the project’s development. In a 2019 conversation with Hindustan Times, Balan humorously remarked, “Sujoy keeps threatening me that he will write Kahaani 3 (laughs), but he hasn’t written it. I am also waiting! Of course, we would love to go ahead with the franchise. It’s crucial that we first find the right story.”

In the meantime, Vidya Balan has continued to captivate audiences with her recent performances. She starred in Do Aur Do Pyaar alongside Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D’Cruz, and Sendhil Ramamurthy. Additionally, she appeared in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, sharing the screen with Kartik Aaryan, Madhuri Dixit, and Triptii Dimri.
