Netflix India and YRF Entertainment have unveiled the synopsis, release date, and the first striking poster for “Maharaj.” The poster features Junaid Khan, who is depicted with long hair, a mustache, a white shirt, and a brown waistcoat, capturing the historical essence of his character. Jaideep Ahlawat appears as a Hindu priest with a ponytail and a prominent tilak on his forehead, adding to the film’s intrigue. Netflix India’s Instagram announcement reads, “The fight for the truth between a powerful man and a fearless journalist. Based on true events – Maharaj is releasing on 14 June, only on Netflix!”

Set in 1862, “Maharaj” explores a pivotal period in Indian history, just a few years after the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, with only three universities in existence. The film centers around a landmark legal battle inspired by true events, focusing on Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer known for advocating women’s rights and social reforms. The story culminates in the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862, a sensational legal battle ignited by allegations of misconduct against a prominent figure. This case garnered widespread attention and scrutiny, becoming one of the most significant legal confrontations of the time.

“Maharaj” promises to deliver a powerful blend of history, drama, and social commentary, sure to captivate audiences when it premieres on Netflix on June 14.
