Jude Law Reveals He Almost Played Superman

The British actor recalls his close brush with donning the iconic superhero’s cape

British actor Jude Law once considered playing Superman in the movie “Superman: Flyby,” penned by J.J. Abrams, which promised a fresh take on the hero’s origin.

In a recent interview with The Playlist, Law reminisced about his contemplation of the role. “This is true. There was a process of flirtation going on,” Law said. “I always resisted because it just felt off. And I know people might say, ‘But you played Yonn-Rogg and Dumbledore!’ It just felt like a step too far.”

He added, “At the time, Brett Ratner was set to direct. I don’t even remember if there was a script. They brought me the suit, thinking it might change my mind.”

Law did try on the Superman suit. “When I looked in the mirror, part of me thought, ‘Wow, this could be amazing,’ but then I just felt, ‘No, you can’t do this. You can’t.’ I couldn’t convince myself,” he admitted.

Ultimately, Law decided to walk away from the project, which never came to fruition. Reflecting on this, he concluded, “Maybe it probably wouldn’t have done anything anyway.”
