John Abraham’s Football Film ‘1911’ Shelved; Actor Focuses on Upcoming Political Thriller ‘The Diplomat’

n a recent interview, John Abraham announced that his anticipated football-centric film ‘1911’ has been indefinitely postponed. The project, which aimed to depict Mohun Bagan’s historic 1911 IFA Shield victory, faced creative challenges leading to its shelving.

Abraham explained that while the concept was compelling, the team decided to pause the project due to the abundance of football-themed films already available. He expressed hope to revisit ‘1911’ in the future.

Shifting focus, Abraham is set to star in ‘The Diplomat’, a political thriller directed by Shivam Nair. Scheduled for release on March 14, 2025, the film features Abraham as J.P. Singh, the Deputy High Commissioner of India in Islamabad. The narrative centers on Singh’s mission to assist Uzma Ahmed, portrayed by Sadia Khateeb, an Indian woman seeking refuge after being forced into marriage in Pakistan. The film delves into themes of diplomacy, international relations, and personal conflict.

‘The Diplomat’ also stars Kumud Mishra, Sharib Hashmi, and Revathy in pivotal roles. The film’s music is composed by Manan Bhardwaj, with a soundtrack that complements its intense narrative. Following its theatrical release, the movie will be available for streaming on Netflix.
