Jason Momoa Reflects on Uncertain Future as Aquaman Amidst New DC Leadership

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hollywood actor Jason Momoa shared his apprehensions about potential future appearances as the iconic Aquaman, especially as he promotes the upcoming release of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” hitting theaters on Dec. 22.

Addressing swirling rumors that this latest cinematic venture could mark his final portrayal of the legendary King of Atlantis, Momoa candidly confessed, “I don’t necessarily want it to be the end… [but] I don’t think it’s really, like, a choice.”

Known for his genuine love for the ocean and a childhood dream of becoming a marine biologist, Momoa has openly expressed his gratitude for embodying the Aquaman character. However, he acknowledges the evolving vision of James Gunn and Peter Safran, the newly appointed leaders of DC Studios, who aim to carve out their distinct path in the DC cinematic universe.

“The truth of it is, I mean, if the audience loves it, then there’s a possibility,” Momoa commented on the prospect of reprising his role. “But right now, I’m like, ‘It’s not looking too good.'”

Expressing a deep affection for the character and a desire to continue playing Aquaman for an extended period, Momoa outlined his vision for the role in the coming years. However, he pragmatically noted, “it just comes down to if people love it.”

Having made his debut as Aquaman in 2017’s Justice League before headlining his own film the following year, Momoa finds himself outside the current plans of Gunn and Safran’s DC slate unveiled earlier this year. Despite this, the actor remains hopeful about staying within the superhero universe, even if it means embracing a different comic book character.

“If there’s a place in their world for me, I would love to be a part of it,” Momoa stated. “This is my home. Warner and DC is definitely my home. So, that’s all I’ll say.”
