Janhvi Kapoor Slams AI Misuse as Varun Dhawan Backs Stronger Laws for Artists

Ahead of her film releases, Janhvi voices concern over fake AI images being spread online, while Varun warns of a future where actors may be replaced by digital clones.

Bollywood actor Janhvi Kapoor, who is gearing up for two back-to-back releases — Homebound on September 26 and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari on October 2 — has spoken out against the increasing misuse of Artificial Intelligence in the entertainment industry.

The actress revealed that several AI-generated images of her are circulating on social media without her consent. She highlighted that while industry insiders might identify them as fake, the average viewer often assumes they are real, believing she actually wore the outfits shown in the manipulated pictures.

Janhvi also acknowledged that AI can be a useful tool for quick concept creation, such as designing looks or visualising story ideas. However, she warned that relying too heavily on it risks undermining the originality and emotional depth that human artists bring to their craft.

At the trailer launch of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, Varun Dhawan echoed Janhvi’s concerns, stressing the urgent need for legal safeguards against AI misuse. He warned that if left unchecked, technology could progress to a point where real actors are replaced entirely by digital replicas.

Both Janhvi and Varun underlined the importance of strengthening personality rights — the legal ability for individuals to control the use of their name, image, and likeness — to ensure that artists are not exploited by technological misuse.
