James Gunn Wraps Up Superman Filming with Heartfelt Tribute to Team

Director expresses gratitude as DC Studios’ Superman reboot concludes principal photography, set for 2025 release

James Gunn took to social media on Tuesday to express his deep appreciation for his collaborators as filming for the new Superman movie wrapped up. Sharing a set photo and a heartfelt message, Gunn thanked the team behind the DC Studios feature, which reboots the iconic character and is scheduled for release by Warner Bros. on July 11, 2025.

“And that’s a wrap,” Gunn wrote. “God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own.”

He continued, “Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set — and for that I am forever grateful.”

The film stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. This project marks the first feature film under the new slate of projects overseen by DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The ensemble cast also includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.

Gunn’s social media post featured a photo of the crew during their first week of shooting in snowy Svalbard, Norway. This Superman film is the first to feature the character since Henry Cavill’s portrayal in multiple titles, beginning with Zack Snyder’s 2013 film, Man of Steel.
