James Gunn Unveils Commencement of Filming for “Superman”

Renowned filmmaker James Gunn initiated the filming process for his upcoming “Superman” movie on February 29, marking a significant milestone in the rebooted DC Universe. Gunn, alongside his co-boss at DC Studios, Peter Safran, disclosed that the film, previously titled “Superman: Legacy,” will now simply go by “Superman.”
In a social media post capturing what seems to be a detailed shot of his rendition of the Superman costume, Gunn expressed his excitement, coinciding the commencement date with Superman’s birthday. He reflected on the evolution of the film’s title from “Superman: Legacy” to its streamlined version, emphasizing its journey to the audience set for July 2025.
Leading the ensemble cast is David Corenswet, recognized for his roles in Ryan Murphy productions, who steps into the shoes of the titular superhero. Accompanying him is Emmy-winning actress Rachel Brosnahan, known for her role in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” portraying the iconic character Lois Lane. Additionally, Nicholas Hoult assumes the role of Superman’s arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor, while Gunn’s casting includes talents such as Skyler Gisondo, Anthony Carrigan, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillon, and Isabela Mercad.
The unveiling of the cast was preceded by a table read of the script in Atlanta, as Gunn shared the first glimpse of the ensemble on Instagram. Speaking to Variety at the SAG Awards, Brosnahan expressed her exhilaration upon hearing Gunn’s narrative come to life.
The actor highlighted the dynamic nature of Lois Lane, emphasizing her intelligence, ambition, and wit, expressing enthusiasm for exploring the character under Gunn’s direction.
Scheduled for release on July 11, 2025, “Superman” promises a revitalized take on the beloved superhero saga, poised to captivate audiences worldwide.
