Henry Cavill Injury Forces Delay to Highlander Reboot; Filming Now Set for 2026
The Amazon MGM remake, directed by Chad Stahelski and featuring a star-studded cast including Russell Crowe and Dave Bautista, is postponed after Cavill suffers an injury during immersive pre-production sword training.

Henry Cavill’s long-awaited Highlander remake has been pushed back into 2026 after the actor sustained an injury while training during pre-production.
The exact nature of Cavill’s injury has not been disclosed, but it is serious enough to halt the planned shoot, which had been expected to begin soon.
Directed by Chad Stahelski—best known for the John Wick franchise—the new Highlander has been in development for nearly a decade, originally at Lionsgate before moving to Amazon MGM Studios.
The ensemble cast includes Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Max Zhang.
Cavill, 42, has been preparing intensely for the role and teased at CinemaCon 2024 that his sword work in this project would surpass anything he had done before.
The original Highlander (1986), starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, spawned multiple sequels and a popular TV series. The upcoming remake features a screenplay by Michael Finch and is being produced by Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner.
