Gigi Hadid Arrested for Marijuana Possession in Cayman Islands

American model and television personality Gigi Hadid, who was on vacation, was apprehended and penalized after Customs & Border Control agents located marijuana in her baggage in the Cayman Islands last week.

Local outlet Cayman Marl Road, that the arrest took place at the Owen Roberts International Airport on “suspicion of Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja” following a search of their luggage during being processed through customs.

The outlet report also mentions that the quantities of the substances were quite less and appeared to be for personal consumption.

Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control informed that on July 10, 2023, Gigi and her friend, influencer Leah Nicole McCarthy, were arrested for the importation of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Following the discovery, the duo was transported to the Prisoner Detention Center.

Multiple news reports stated that on July 12, 2023, Gigi Hadid and her friend appeared in court, where they were sentenced for “Importation of a Controlled Drug” and “Importation of a Drug Utensil.”

They pleaded guilty and received a penalty of $1,000 with no further additional charges.

In a statement to E! News, the supermodel’s rep said,

“Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license. It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Gigi Hadid is yet to make a public comment about the arrest but has posted a series of photos from her vacation on Instagram with the caption, “All’s well that ends well.”
