Future of “Fantastic Beasts” in Doubt as HBO’s “Harry Potter” TV Series Takes Center Stage
With Warner Bros. shifting focus to a “Harry Potter” TV adaptation, stars Jude Law and Eddie Redmayne express uncertainty about the return of “Fantastic Beasts.”

The “Fantastic Beasts” series may be coming to an end, as Warner Bros. shifts its attention to an upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series. Jude Law, who portrayed a young Dumbledore, recently shared in an interview with Variety that plans for future installments seem to be on hold, with the spotlight now on the new adaptation.
“I know it’s certainly on hold,” Law said. “With ‘Harry Potter’ being reimagined for TV, I think that’s where the studio’s energy is now. I haven’t heard of any updates for ‘Fantastic Beasts’ in quite some time.”
Eddie Redmayne, who played Newt Scamander, also voiced his doubts about a potential fourth film in an interview with ComicBook.com. Though he expressed gratitude for his role in the Wizarding World, he admitted the chances of a return seem slim. However, he hinted that fans may still see Newt in Universal Studios’ Wizarding World in Florida.
“I think audiences have probably seen the last of Newt in the films,” Redmayne said. “As far as I know, that’s it. But you might catch a glimpse of what Newt’s been up to at Universal Studios, where they’re expanding the Wizarding World.”
Reflecting on his time as Dumbledore, Law shared that author J.K. Rowling had given him a detailed background for the character, showing him as both powerful and complex. “Dumbledore saw himself as a monster, which is why he admired Newt, who took care of monsters,” Law noted.
Though it appears Law won’t return as Dumbledore, fans can still catch him in another major role later this year. Law is set to star in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, an adventure series by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, offering a new journey for the actor in a galaxy far, far away.
