Ethan Coen’s ‘Honey Don’t!’ to Premiere at Cannes Before August Theatrical Release​

Ethan Coen returns with Honey Don’t!, a dark comedy that delves into mystery and satire. The film is scheduled for its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the Midnight Screenings section , followed by a wide U.S. theatrical release on August 22, 2025, through Focus Features .

Set in Bakersfield, California, the story follows Honey O’Donahue (Margaret Qualley), a private investigator entangled in a series of mysterious deaths connected to a local church. Chris Evans portrays the enigmatic cult leader, Priest Dean, while Aubrey Plaza takes on the role of a mysterious woman. The ensemble cast also includes Charlie Day and Billy Eichner .

Co-written and co-directed by Ethan Coen and his wife, Tricia Cooke, Honey Don’t! is the second installment in their planned “lesbian B-movie trilogy,” following 2024’s Drive-Away Dolls . The film blends elements of noir and dark comedy, reminiscent of Coen’s earlier works like Raising Arizona, but with a contemporary twist.​
