Ellen DeGeneres To Make A Comeback on TV with ‘Saving the Gorillas’ Special

Over a year following her daytime show concluded premiering, American comedian and television host Ellen DeGeneres is set to return to television but in a different stance.

With a two-hour documentary special titled “Saving the Gorillas: Ellen’s Next Adventure,” DeGeneres will bring a passion project portraying her love for animals to Discovery Channel.

The special is slated to debut on September 23, 2023, on streaming services Discovery+ and Max. Along with that, on September 24, 2023, the special will feature an encore presentation in honor of World Gorilla Day. It will also be airing on Animal Planet.

The documentary shows her as she works to conserve primatologist Dian Fossey’s legacy by constructing the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in Rwanda.

Since its inception in 2022, the campus has aided with gorilla conservation and biodiversity in the region and hosted tourists, including local school children.
In the special, DeGeneres says,

“Every single thing has led me to just have a big enough platform to say, ‘Look at work Dian Fossey did,’ There’s nothing that keeps you more present, more in the moment, than sitting with gorillas.”

For Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, ‘Saving the Gorillas: Ellen’s Next Adventure’ is executive produced by Christopher Collins, Lydia Tenaglia, and Craig H. Shepherd for Zero Point Zero Production along with DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman for A Very Good Production. The director of his special is Abigail Harper.
