Dylan Minnette Shifts Focus from Acting to Music with Band Wallows

“13 Reasons Why” Star Embraces Musical Passion Amid Hollywood Break

Dylan Minnette, widely known for his role in “13 Reasons Why,” has decided to step back from acting to concentrate on his musical career with his rock band, Wallows. Since beginning his acting journey at just 8 years old, Minnette recently opened up about this transition on the Zach Sang Show.

“I was fortunate to find success in acting,” Minnette shared. “Being part of ’13 Reasons Why’ was incredible, but it started to feel more like a job than a passion. Although acting was always enjoyable and inspiring, it eventually lost its spark for me.”

Minnette’s band, Wallows, which includes members Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston, has long harbored aspirations of taking their music career to the highest level possible.

“I feel like I’m in a position now where I can fully dedicate myself to music and push Wallows as far as it can go,” Minnette explained. “To achieve that, I need to invest all my time and energy into it, showing the world how serious we are about our music. We are a real band, committed to doing real band things.”

Minnette emphasized that following his passion for music feels natural and inspiring at this point in his life. Despite occasionally considering a return to acting, his last opportunity coincided with the actors’ strike.

With his break from Hollywood extending — his most recent appearances being in 2022’s “Scream” and “The Dropout” — Minnette confessed that he is beginning to feel a renewed inspiration for acting and other creative pursuits.

“I do feel like I have more to offer artistically, and that might be through acting,” he said. “When Wallows takes a break, I believe that will be the perfect time for me to return to acting, with fresh inspiration and artistic energy.”
