Dulquer Salmaan on Boycott Culture in the South

According to Dulquer Salmaan, there is no cancel culture in the south; instead, these online tendencies are exclusively seen in Bollywood. Over the past few weeks, social media users have called for boycotts of a number of big-budget movies, including Laal Singh Chadha, the Forrest Gump version starring Aamir Khan. The movie, which was directed by Advait Chauhan and stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh, did poorly at the box office.

Dulquer explained the boycott culture to Prabhat Khabar as follows: “The boycott culture is overpowering these days because of social media. You can write anything (on social media), so people start writing things with their own agendas, without any responsibilities. There is no culture in the south, we are hearing about it first in Bollywood.”
