Denzel Washington Hints at Potential Acting Retirement

Oscar-winning actor shares thoughts on future roles and “Gladiator 2”

In a recent interview with Empire magazine, the two-time Oscar winner revealed that Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated “Gladiator 2” might be one of the few films left that truly excites him. While Washington didn’t specify how many more roles he has in mind, he emphasized that he’s only interested in projects that truly inspire him.

The actor’s decision to join the “Gladiator” sequel was largely influenced by his admiration for Ridley Scott, with whom he previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed “American Gangster.” Washington praised Scott’s passion and enthusiasm, stating, “He’s an inspiration. We should all want to feel like that at 86.”

Scott, for his part, is incredibly confident in the quality of “Gladiator 2,” claiming it to be one of the best films he’s ever made. The sequel follows the story of Lucius, the son of Lucilla and the nephew of Commodus, as he returns to Rome as a gladiator years after being exiled. Washington plays Macrinus, a wealthy powerbroker who owns a stable of gladiators.
