Controversy Erupts as Sunny Deol’s Comments on India-Pakistan Relations Stir Social Media Ahead of Gadar 2 Trailer Debut

The actors and producers of Gadar 2, the follow-up to Anil Sharma’s hugely successful international drama from 2001, debuted the teaser on Wednesday. Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, in addition to the rest of the Gadar 2 ensemble, joined Anil at the Gadar 2 trailer unveiling event, which was held on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Divas. When Sunny made a comment about India-Pakistan relations at the premiere of his new film’s trailer, it garnered attention, and many people on Twitter, now known as X, criticized the actor.

The actor and BJP member from Gurdaspur in Punjab attributed the animosity between India and Pakistan to a “political game.” His ‘diplomatic’ remark caused much discontent on social media, with some alleging he said it to encourage Pakistanis to watch Gadar 2. Others suggested boycotting the movie as a result of Sunny’s remarks.

At the debut of the Gadar 2 trailer, Sunny Deol commented, “Kuch le jane ya lene-dene ki baat nahi hoti hai. Baat hoti hai insaniyat ki. Jhagde nahi hone chahiye. Dono taraf utna hi pyar hai, yeh siyasi khel hota hai jo sab nafratein paida karta hai. Aur woh hi aap dekhenge iss film mein bhi. Janta nahi koi chahti ki ek dusre ke sath hum jhagda kare. Aakhir hai toh sab iss hi mitti se (The essence lies in humanity, not in taking or giving. A conflict between the two sides should not prevail. There is love on both sides. It is the political blame game that creates hatred between India and Pakistan, a theme reflected in this film. Both nations comprise of people who seek peace, as we are essentially one and the same).”
