Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. Share Heartwarming Update on Jeremy Renner’s Recovery Journey
Avengers Stars Reflect on Friendship and Resilience Amidst Challenges

Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. recently shared touching insights into their co-star Jeremy Renner’s remarkable recovery following a snow plow accident in early 2023. In a candid interview, the Avengers actors revealed how they rallied around Renner during his ordeal and celebrated his resilience.
Recalling the moment they learned of Renner’s accident, Hemsworth reminisced about a group text message sent by Renner from the hospital. “He sent us all a sort of a doped out, hospital, beat-up image and said, ‘All good, guys.’ And then I didn’t hear from him for a while as he was in the thick of it,” Hemsworth shared with Vanity Fair.
Renner’s return to the spotlight was marked by his attendance at Chris Evans’ wedding in Cape Cod, where his friends marveled at his recovery progress. Downey reflected on Renner’s display of resilience, remarking, “If there’s one characteristic we’d all agree is paramount, it’s resilience. To see Renner embody that literally and in the context of what was basically a Portuguese-American wedding was mind-blowing. Fully recovered and ready to celebrate. So, yes-miracles happen.”
Expressing gratitude for being alive, Hemsworth emphasized the profound sense of appreciation Renner exuded. “There was an astounding sense of gratitude from him around just being alive,” Hemsworth added.
In the same interview, Hemsworth also touched upon his own professional journey, expressing regret over his performance in 2022’s “Thor: Love and Thunder.” Admitting to getting carried away with improvisation and losing sight of his character’s essence, Hemsworth confessed, “I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself. I didn’t stick the landing.”
Despite his success as the God of Thunder in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hemsworth revealed inner struggles, feeling overshadowed by his co-stars at times. “Sometimes I felt like a security guard for the team. I would read everyone else’s lines, and go, ‘Oh, they got way cooler stuff. They’re having more fun.’ What’s my character doing?” Hemsworth reflected on his role. “It was always about, ‘You’ve got the wig on. You’ve got the muscles. You’ve got the costume. Where’s the lighting?’ Yeah, I’m part of this big thing, but I’m probably pretty replaceable.”
