‘Challengers’ Starring Zendaya Faces Further Delay Amid SAG-AFTRA Strike, Now Set for April 2024 Release

American media company ‘Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ (MGM) announced the postponement of ‘Challengers’ directed by Luca Guadagnino in light of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Originally slated to be released on August 11, 2023, the American romantic sports comedy-drama was first rescheduled for September 15, 2023, and has now been moved to April 26, 2024.

The movie starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist, was also set to have its world premiere as the opening film of the 80th Venice International Film Festival, which is to be held from August 30 to September 9, 2023.

The movie goes about a Grand Slam tennis champion who, following a losing streak, enrolls in a challenger event against the former lover of his wife and coach.

The movie features Zendaya as former tennis prodigy Tashi Duncan, with her husband being played by Mike Fais and Josh O’Connor as Patrick, who is his former best friend and Tashi’s ex.

Amy Pascal’s Pascal Pictures banner, along with Guadagnino and Zendaya, are the producers, while playwright-singer-author, Justin Kuritzkes, wrote the script, which made the 2021 Black List.
