CBS Pulls the Plug on NCIS: Hawai’i After Three Seasons

Network Cancels Fan-Favorite Show Despite Strong Viewer Numbers

In a surprising move, CBS has announced the cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i, marking the end of its three-season run. The final episode of the series, which has garnered a loyal fan base, is scheduled to air on May 6.

Despite boasting impressive ratings, with an average of 7.8 million viewers in Nielsen’s seven-day linear ratings and reaching 10 million viewers over 35 days of cross-platform viewing, NCIS: Hawai’i failed to secure a renewal from CBS. The decision comes as the network plans to introduce a new NCIS series titled Origins, focusing on a younger version of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, set to premiere in the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Starring Vanessa Lachey and featuring LL Cool J from NCIS: Los Angeles in its latest season, NCIS: Hawai’i was positioned as a strong contender in the NCIS franchise. However, it will now hold the title of the shortest-lived series in the franchise, with 54 episodes over three seasons.

The cancellation also marks the end of CBS’s production in Hawaii, breaking a tradition that began in 2010 with Hawaii Five-0 and continued with Magnum P.I. The series, produced by CBS Studios and boasting a talented ensemble cast including Alex Tarrant, Noah Mills, and Yasmine Al-Bustami, was well-received by audiences.

With the fate of NCIS: Hawai’i sealed, CBS has finalized its decisions on all scripted series, leaving fans disappointed but eager for what’s next in the network’s lineup.
