‘Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry’ Wins at Sarajevo Film Festival

Georgian drama, ‘Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry,’ directed by Elene Naveriani, has bagged the top prize for best film at the 2023 Sarajevo International Film Festival.

The narrative/romance portrays 48-year-old Etero, who resides in a tiny Georgian hamlet and has never sought a spouse. She values her independence as much as she values her cakes. However, her decision to live alone has caused much chatter among her fellow peasants.

‘Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry’ actress Ekaterine Chavleishvili was presented with the best actress honor at the Heart of Sarajevo awards.

The best actor prize was awarded to newcomer Jovan Ginic for his character in ‘Lost Country,’ directed by Vladimir Perisic. The best director award was given to Ukrainian filmmaker Philip Sotnychenko for ‘La Palisiada.’

The award for best documentary was given to Serbian director Nemanja Vojinovic for ‘Bottlemen’ and for her documentary ‘Silence of Reason,’ Macedonian filmmaker Kumjana Novakova received the human rights award, which is awarded to the film in the Sarajevo competition that best addresses human rights issues.

The animated film, ’27’, directed by Flóra Anna Buda, won the award for best short film, which allows the project for Oscar consideration.
