Anthony Mackie Reflects on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Misses Season 2 Opportunity”

The dynamic duo of Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (played by Sebastian Stan) embarked on a thrilling global escapade in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” testing their mettle and camaraderie. The Disney+ series culminated in Wilson’s momentous decision to assume the mantle of Captain America, paving the way for “Captain America: Brave New World.” However, despite the excitement for the future, Mackie expressed a tinge of disappointment over the absence of a second season for the beloved show.

Mackie shared with RadioTimes his fondness for the series, stating, “I really enjoyed doing that show. I was actually excited to do a second season, just so me and Sebastian [Stan] can get paid to hang out. Because it’s like me, him and Daniel Brühl. It’s kind of like the perfect storm of happiness… Anything I can do to hang out with Daniel, a dancing Daniel Brühl, makes me very happy.”

He lamented the transition back to the big screen, acknowledging, “When they decided to go back to the movies, it is what it is, but I don’t have my friends anymore, so it kind of dampens it a little bit.”

While Sebastian Stan and Daniel Brühl may not grace “Captain America: Brave New World,” the film boasts the presence of other “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” alumni, including Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly portraying Joaquin Torres and Isaiah Bradley, respectively. Joining them are industry stalwarts Harrison Ford, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Shira Haas.

Despite the anticipation for “Brave New World,” production hasn’t been without hurdles. Originally slated for release this year, the film faced delays, pushing its premiere to February 14, 2025, to accommodate extensive reshoots following tepid test screenings. With recent disappointments like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels,” the studio is keen on avoiding another misstep.
