Anthony Mackie Embraces Creative Freedom Beyond Marvel’s Constraints
Exploring the Actor’s Versatility in “Twisted Metal” Versus the MCU

Anthony Mackie’s journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portraying both The Falcon and Captain America, has been remarkable. However, he acknowledges the limitations that come with playing such iconic roles.
In a recent interview with RadioTimes, Mackie discussed the contrast between his work in Marvel projects and his role in Peacock’s “Twisted Metal” as John Doe.
Reflecting on his MCU experience, Mackie remarked, “There’s only so much creativity you can bring to the table because Stan Lee gave us so much content.” He emphasized the challenge of staying true to the established characters while exploring new avenues within the franchise.
Conversely, “Twisted Metal” offered Mackie a fresh canvas. He noted that his character had no preconceived notions tied to it, allowing for more experimentation. Mackie expressed excitement about the opportunity to build the world around his character freely.
The actor highlighted the difference in approach between the two projects. While Marvel requires adherence to Stan Lee’s vision, “Twisted Metal” encouraged a more improvisational and exploratory process.
“Twisted Metal,” which premiered in 2023 and has been renewed for a second season, showcases Mackie’s versatility as an actor outside the confines of the MCU.
