The Emotional Drama Revisits Family Conflict through a Modern-Day ‘Ramayana,’ Filmed Across Shimla and Varanasi

Veteran filmmaker Anil Sharma, known for the blockbuster hits Gadar and Gadar 2, is all set to return with his new film Vanvaas, featuring Nana Patekar and Utkarsh Sharma in pivotal roles. The producers officially announced the movie’s release date as December 20, along with a first look at the lead actors.
Zee Studios broke the news on Instagram, posting, “Iss Christmas, apno ko pehchaniye. Anil Sharma brings to you his next emotional rollercoaster ride! #Vanvaas releasing 20th December, in cinemas near you.”
In an interview with ANI, Anil Sharma shared insights into the film’s production, revealing that it was shot across picturesque locations in Shimla and Varanasi. “The chemistry between Nana Patekar and Utkarsh is the heart of Vanvaas. Their performances have truly elevated the emotional depth of the film,” he remarked.
Drawing inspiration from the Ramayana, the story explores family betrayal with a modern twist. “This is like a ‘Kalyug ka Ramayana,’ where family members push their own into exile,” Sharma explained.
Speaking on behalf of Zee Studios, Umesh Kr Bansal, Chief Business Officer, expressed his excitement for the project. “Vanvaas offers a unique perspective on present-day family dynamics, and we are confident it will strike a chord with audiences.”
Written, produced, and directed by Anil Sharma, Vanvaas will be released exclusively by Zee Studios on December 20.
