Hollywood actress Angela Bassett will be awarded an Honorary Oscar for her performance in the role of Queen Ramonda in the Marvel comic book adaptation of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ She will become the first person of color and the first woman to receive this honor.

Angela Evelyn Bassett has been renowned for her work in film and television since the late 1980s. She has been the recipient of several honors, including two Golden Globe Awards, nominations for two Academy Awards, and seven Primetime Emmy Awards.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that along with Bassett, Mel Brooks, and Carol Littleton will also be awarded the honorary Oscars at this year’s Governors Awards.

Honorary Oscars are rare and prestigious awards that are seldom given. The recipients are selected by the Academy’s Board of Governors. The ones who have made special and noteworthy contributions to the film industry are bestowed with this honor.
