Andra Day Joins “Percy Jackson” Season 2 as the Legendary Goddess Athena
Oscar-Nominated Singer and Actress Brings Wisdom and Power to Rick Riordan’s Hit Series in a Pivotal Role

Oscar-nominated actress Andra Day is set to join the cast of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” for its second season, taking on the iconic role of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom. Athena is a central figure in Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson” series, as she is the mother of Annabeth Chase (played by Leah Sava Jeffries), one of Percy Jackson’s (Walker Scobell) closest allies and a fierce demigod herself.
Day made a powerful acting debut as Billie Holiday in Lee Daniels’ acclaimed biopic “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” (2021), earning her a Golden Globe win, a Grammy for best soundtrack, and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Known primarily for her soulful R&B career, with albums like 2015’s “Cheers to the Fall” and 2024’s “Cassandra (Cherith),” Day has recently starred in new films “Exhibiting Forgiveness” and “The Deliverance” (also directed by Daniels), showcasing her versatility on screen.
Season 1 of “Percy Jackson” followed Percy, a young demigod, as he discovered his godly powers and set out on a quest with his friends Annabeth and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) to stop a looming war among the gods. The upcoming season sees Percy back at Camp Half-Blood, where he faces new challenges: his friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops brother, and the camp is under attack from Kronos’ forces. His journey to save his friends and protect camp leads him into the dangerous Sea of Monsters, where new secrets await.
Disney revealed Day’s casting during a virtual panel at the D23 Expo in Brazil, later sharing the news on social media alongside a video of Day addressing the enthusiastic “Percy Jackson” fanbase.
