Ana de Armas Steps Into the Dark Side of Influencer Fame in Psychological Thriller Sweat
The Oscar-nominated star will lead J Blakeson’s English-language remake of the acclaimed Polish drama, with filming set across Los Angeles and the U.K.

Ana de Armas is set to headline the upcoming psychological thriller Sweat, marking her latest collaboration with prestige filmmakers and high-concept storytelling. The film will be directed by British filmmaker J Blakeson, known for crafting tense, character-driven thrillers such as I Care a Lot and The Disappearance of Alice Creed. This new project is an English-language adaptation of the critically praised 2020 Polish film of the same name, originally directed by Magnus von Horn and showcased at the Cannes Film Festival.
In the film, de Armas will portray Emma Kent, an ambitious fitness influencer obsessed with building the perfect online image and achieving social-media stardom. Emma idolizes a powerful influencer figure named Kat Highbrook, hoping to follow in her footsteps. However, a disastrous encounter with her role model sets off a chain of events that destabilizes her carefully curated life. As Emma struggles to maintain control over her public persona, she becomes trapped in a disturbing relationship with Trent, an increasingly obsessive fan whose dangerous loyalty forces her to confront how much she is willing to sacrifice for fame, validation, and influence.
Production on Sweat is scheduled to begin on March 30, 2026, with filming taking place in both Los Angeles and the United Kingdom. The project is being financed and co-produced by AGC Studios, which will also oversee international sales. U.S. distribution rights are being jointly represented by AGC alongside major talent agencies, while global sales will be launched at the European Film Market in Berlin. Casting for additional roles is currently underway.
The film is being produced by Guy Stodel under his Rosto Inc. banner, alongside Blakeson through his Crimple Beck production company, with Stuart Ford representing AGC as producer. The creative team aims to heighten the psychological tension of the original film while expanding its commentary on influencer culture, digital identity, and the dangerous illusion of online perfection.
Ana de Armas continues to strengthen her position as one of Hollywood’s most versatile performers. She broke through internationally with her acclaimed role in Knives Out and went on to appear in major franchises such as No Time to Die and The Gray Man. Her transformative performance as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde earned her an Academy Award nomination and widespread discussion. Most recently, she starred in the action-heavy John Wick spinoff Ballerina. With Sweat, de Armas adds another intense, character-driven thriller to her growing filmography.
