Amy Adams Joins Javier Bardem in Apple TV+’s ‘Cape Fear’ Series

Acclaimed actors team up in a modern adaptation of the classic thriller, with Spielberg and Scorsese as executive producers.

Apple TV+ has announced that Amy Adams will star alongside Javier Bardem in its upcoming series “Cape Fear.” The 10-episode thriller is a contemporary reimagining of John D. MacDonald’s novel “The Executioners,” which inspired the 1962 film “Cape Fear” and its 1991 remake directed by Martin Scorsese.

In the series, Adams portrays Anna Bowden, a happily married attorney whose life is upended when Max Cady (Bardem), a notorious killer from her past, is released from prison. Described as a “tense, Hitchcockian thriller” and an examination of America’s 21st-century obsession with true crime, the show delves into themes of justice and revenge.

Both Adams and Bardem will serve as executive producers, alongside industry legends Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. Nick Antosca, known for “The Act” and “A Friend of the Family,” will write and serve as showrunner for the series.

Amy Adams is a six-time Academy Award nominee, recognized for her roles in films such as “American Hustle,” “The Master,” and “Arrival.” Javier Bardem won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in “No Country for Old Men” and has been acclaimed for his roles in “Skyfall” and “Dune.”

The “Cape Fear” series is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Spielberg’s Amblin Television. A release date for the series has not yet been announced.
