Agatha All Along: A Gay Explosion in the Marvel Universe

Cast and Creatives Celebrate Unprecedented LGBTQ Representation in Disney+ Series

The cast and creatives behind the Disney+ series “Agatha All Along” are celebrating the show’s groundbreaking LGBTQ representation.

“It’s the gayest show on Marvel,” said Ali Ahn, who plays Alice Wu-Gulliver. “There is a lot of pageantry we’re already competing with. I think the thing that makes it more gay is that we are singing with Patti [LuPone].”

Joe Locke, who plays Teen, explained, “It’s got many layers and gay is one of them. That’s one of the great things about the show. … Teen is a queer guy on the show, but it’s not the driving force, which I think is really great. It’s really nice to just have these positive queer characters.”

Kathryn Hahn, who stars as Agatha Harkness, added, “What is the most exciting thing about it is that’s not exactly what it’s about. It’s so normalized.”

The series features a diverse cast of LGBTQ characters, including Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale, Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal, and Patti LuPone as Lila Calderu. Zamata, a former “Saturday Night Live” player, recently came out as queer. Plaza, who has previously identified as bisexual, has hinted at the show’s LGBTQ themes.

“Agatha All Along” is a refreshing departure from the typical superhero fare, offering a celebration of diversity and inclusion.
