Actress Adah Sharma Responds to Controversy Surrounding ‘The Naxal Story’ Teaser

Amidst mounting anticipation for the release of “The Naxal Story” on March 15, tensions have escalated following a demonstration by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students earlier this year, protesting against the movie’s teaser. The students called for punitive action against the cast and producers, citing concerns over certain dialogues in the teaser. Adah Sharma, who plays the role of Neeraj Mathur, a tough cop in the movie, recently addressed the controversy in an interview with News18.
Sharma expressed her stance, stating, “When portraying a character like Neeraj Mathur in Bastar, I aimed to embody strength, fearlessness, and power. Every word spoken by the character should resonate truth and conviction. Neeraj’s frustration and resolve, including her statement regarding the loss of 76 jawans and her desire for retribution, stem from witnessing the brutalities inflicted upon her comrades. While these words may not be mine as Adah, they are Neeraj’s truth.”
The actress didn’t shy away from addressing the contentious remarks made in the teaser. She asserted that individuals she referred to as “left-leaning pseudo intellectuals” from urban areas who align with Naxals should face public execution. Sharma pointed to a purported incident at JNU where students allegedly celebrated the killing of CRPF officers in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, by Naxals. The controversy further intensified when JNU students condemned the director for allegedly promoting dangerous propaganda and inciting violence, leading to the burning of movie posters as a form of protest in February.
Aishe Ghosh, president of the JNU Students Union, took to social media, demanding swift action against Sudipto Sen, Adah Sharma, and Vipul Amrutlal Shah for what she labeled as an “open call for genocide of JNU students.” Ghosh denounced the alleged attempt to mislead the public, asserting it as a criminal act that warranted immediate intervention.
