Aamir Khan Reflects on 90s Rivalry with Shah Rukh and Salman, Emphasizes Personal Growth Over Competition
In a candid discussion, Aamir Khan shares insights into his past competitive dynamics with fellow Khans, highlighting a shift towards mutual respect and self-improvement.

During a recent appearance on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan delved into the much-discussed topic of his professional relationship with contemporaries Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. Acknowledging the intense competition that characterized their early careers in the 1990s, Aamir admitted, “Each of us wanted to outpace the other two.”
However, Aamir emphasized that his approach to this rivalry was rooted in positivity and self-betterment. “I don’t compete with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar or anyone. However, when my colleagues do great work, it always inspires me,” he remarked.

Reflecting on the evolution of their relationships, Aamir noted that the once-intense competition has matured into camaraderie. “Now, after 35 years together, there’s warmth and friendship between us that’s more visible now,” he shared.
Discussing Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), Aamir expressed admiration without envy. He stated, “I did not have in mind to do a romantic film like DDLJ because I like that film and I enjoy watching it. So, I am not competing.”
Interestingly, DDLJ, which became a landmark in Indian cinema, was initially offered to Aamir, Salman, and Saif Ali Khan before Shah Rukh Khan accepted the role.
Aamir’s reflections underscore a journey from rivalry to mutual respect among Bollywood’s leading Khans, highlighting a focus on personal growth and admiration for each other’s work.
