Aamir Khan Praises Govinda’s Comic Brilliance in Sandwich, Watches It Three Times

Director Anees Bazmee Reveals Aamir Khan’s Admiration for Govinda’s Performance, Reflects on Sandwich and Prepares for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3

Govinda, known for his mastery of comedy in Hindi cinema since the 1980s, remains one of Bollywood’s most beloved entertainers. Best remembered for his collaborations with David Dhawan in hits like Hero No.1, Coolie No.1, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Govinda’s performances continue to captivate audiences. Recently, director Anees Bazmee shared an interesting revelation about Sandwich, Govinda’s 2006 film, and how superstar Aamir Khan holds the film in high regard.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Bazmee recalled meeting Aamir Khan, who expressed his admiration for Sandwich. The actor revealed that he had watched the comedy not just once, but three times. Aamir was particularly impressed with Govinda’s impeccable comic timing.

“Aamir Khan met me and told me he’s a big fan. He said, ‘Anees bhai, I watched your film Sandwich. What a film! I’ve seen it three times!’ I was surprised and said, ‘You’ve watched Sandwich three times?'” Bazmee recounted.

Aamir further complimented Govinda’s comedic talent and highlighted the unique challenge of playing dual roles in the film. Bazmee, who also directed Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, referred to Sandwich as a “lovely” film that has left a lasting impact on viewers like Aamir.

Sandwich starred Govinda, Raveena Tandon, and Mahima Chaudhry, with Raveena and Mahima playing his on-screen wives. The movie also featured performances by Mohnish Bahl, Shammi Kapoor, and Anant Mahadevan, among others. The film’s popularity led to a Kannada remake titled Double Decker.

As for Anees Bazmee’s upcoming projects, he is gearing up for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, the third installment in the popular horror-comedy franchise. While Priyadarshan directed the original 2007 Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Bazmee took over for the sequels, including Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which starred Kartik Aaryan. The upcoming film will see Kartik reprising his role as Rooh Baba, alongside Animal star Triptii Dimri. Fans will also see Vidya Balan returning as Manjulika, a character she made iconic in the first film, with Madhuri Dixit also portraying a version of Manjulika. The cast also includes Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, and Sanjay Mishra in pivotal roles.

In addition to the Bhool Bhulaiyaa series, Bazmee is known for directing hit comedies such as No Entry, Welcome, Singh is Kinng, and No Problem.
