Aamir Khan Dismisses Title Change Rumors for Sunny Deol’s Lahore 1947

Despite speculation that the film might be renamed Batwara 1947, the producer confirms the original title remains unchanged.

Rumors surrounding the upcoming period drama Lahore 1947 recently sparked speculation that the film might be retitled Batwara 1947. However, producer Aamir Khan has firmly dismissed these claims, confirming that the film will continue with its original title. The much-anticipated project is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and stars Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, and Ali Fazal in key roles.

Addressing the reports, Aamir Khan reportedly laughed off the speculation and clarified that the title has not been changed. According to him, the film is still titled Lahore 1947, and he would prefer to keep it that way. The rumors about a possible name change began circulating after some discussions suggested that naming a film after a Pakistani city might not be well received by certain sections of the Indian audience. However, Aamir appears unwilling to alter the title due to such concerns.

Interestingly, the issue surrounding the title seems to be more technical than political. Reports indicate that the rights to the title “Lahore” are currently held by filmmaker Suneel Darshan. As a result, the producers are in talks to resolve the matter and secure the rights. Once the negotiations are settled, the film is expected to retain its original title rather than adopting the rumored alternative.

Lahore 1947 is inspired by the acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya O Jamya E Nai, written by Asghar Wajahat, and is set against the backdrop of the Partition of India in 1947. The film marks a major collaboration between Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi, a duo that previously delivered iconic films such as Ghayal, Ghatak, and Damini. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the period drama also features music composed by A.R. Rahman with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
