Plot:
Liger is a sports action movie. Balamani (Ramya Krishna) and her son Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) shifted from Karimnagar to Mumbai. Balamani wants his son to become a martial arts champion. Liger gets training from an MMA master (Ronit Roy) as the mother and son make a living by a chai business in Mumbai. The plot twist comes when Tanya (Ananya Pandey), a wealthy girl, comes into his life and later betrays him Will his love story make him a champion, or will it get him into trouble?
Review
Balamani and Liger relocate to Mumbai to succeed in the MMA industry. Liger stutters, and as a result, is made fun of often. His fighting prowess made people quiet. Liger’s lifelong goal is to become a well-known MMA fighter. However, Balamani advises him not to fall in love and to get diverted. Tanya, a well-known figure on social media, is impressed after watching Liger engage in combat. So, he did exactly what his mother had advised him against.
Puri Jagannadh, a director who has created several notable movies in the past, appears to be completely out of shape. Even a young child could anticipate the outcome of this narrative because it is so old-fashioned.
Having said that, Liger gets off to a strong start. Our attention is drawn to the scenes of street fighting. That’s all, sadly. The weak love story between Ananya and Vijay causes the screenplay to spiral downward from this point. You exhale in frustration every time Tanya appears on screen because the scenes are so sloppily scripted.
With virtually no stakes, the film is stretched out. The narrative then takes us to the United States before introducing boxing icon Mike Tyson as Mark Henderson. Although this cameo is meant to provide the much-needed boost, it instead ends up being funny. The screenplay by Puri Jagannadh was unable to elicit any feeling, much less a good one. Every scene, except for one or two, is unnecessary and appears to have been taken from other commercial movies. Liger appeared to be a classic rags-to-riches tale based on the trailer.
The physical change of Vijay Deverakonda is impressive. But occasionally, he overdoes the stammer act. Ramya Krishnan is a loud character, and she is undoubtedly one of the ones who brought interest to the movie. Ananya Panday is forgotten as the perpetual damsel in trouble. Mike Tyson is a legend; thus, it is perplexing to see how he agreed to play such a role that doesn’t make any sense or add anything to the narrative.
Liger deserves 2 out of 5 stars. Liger adds its name to the list of movies that accuse males of being sidetracked because of women. The movie makes us wonder if the script-writing team spent enough time on it.
