PLOT

The story is set in the village of Rudravanam in the 1990s. After a lengthy absence, Surya returns to his village with his mother. The rural belle and daughter of Rudravanam’s sarpanch, Nandini, captures his heart right away. People start dying one by one in the village all of a sudden as a result of a sequence of inexplicable events. What is genuinely going on in Rudravanam? What’s the cause of all these fatalities, anyway? How did Surya solve the riddle? The solutions are in the movie.

First half is racy with a touch of romance. Director sets up the plot quickly. From the first frame, one is drawn into the proceedings and Sukumar’s screenplay shines in the first hour. There is a great effort by the production design team in bringing Rudravanam to life.

REVIEW

The sound effects in Virupaksha are brilliant and execute many chilling sequences in the film. The first half is thrilling and scary, with attention to every detail enhancing the viewing experience. Sai Dharam Tej sheds mass image, does a fair job unraveling village mystery. The actor displayed mature acting skills and executed the script as required.

Samyukta Menon performed remarkably in a significant role as a convincing village girl, with sufficient opportunity to exhibit her acting skills. She gave her best in the movie. Great writing, powerful score, strong characters drive the story forward. Ajay, Sai Chand, Shymala, Soniya Singh, and Brahmaji have their best.

The second half was disappointing, despite a strong start. The pacing weakens, although there are a few well-executed twists. Climax could’ve been better. The early romance in the film is dull; those scenes could be improved. Love tracks and song break film flow. The film contains graphic scenes that may be unsettling for those of a sensitive character.

Virupaksha is a great technically well-crafted movie with a top-notch background score by Ajaneesh Loknath. Ajaneesh Loknath is Virupaksha’s second hero with exceptional sound effects integrated into the story. Great cinematography by Shamdat and has excellent production values. Editing could’ve been better.

Regarding the movie’s director, he did a terrific job. It’s amazing how deeply he wrote the story and how he wrote it. He brilliantly utilized technological aspects to properly tell his message on TV. The cherry on top is Sukumar’s connection to the movie. But the climax and second half weren’t that good.
