REVIEW
This movie is an authentic adaptation of the Malayalam movie Driving License. It is not a replica of the original and has many lighter moments. Besides sticking to the basic plot, Selfie plays with comedy instead of the original’s somber undertones.
The movie’s narrative centers on Akshay Kumar, who portrays a movie star. He meets an RTO representative who later becomes a significant admirer.
Selfie has a relatively straightforward narrative. Bollywood superstar Vijay Kumar (Akshay Kumar) is in Bhopal to film his forthcoming movie when the producer requests a copy of his driver’s license for a scene vital to the film’s plot and requires him to operate a vehicle. But Kumar must apply for a new license because he misplaced his old one. Emraan Hashmi, who plays traffic inspection officer Om Prakash Agarwal, enters the scene as Vijay’s ardent admirer and offers a new license based on a tatkal in exchange for a photo with his hero.
As Kumar arrives at the RTO for what he believes will be a brief encounter with a fan, he discovers that the entire local media is present and becomes angry with Om Prakash in front of his kid. The super fan loses it in front of the media and yells at the celebrity. When egos clash, the conflict between the famous and the average person becomes newsworthy for the national media.
The soundtrack for this film was composed by Anu Malik, TanishkBagchi, and YoYo Honey Singh. It has a solid narrative and two likable stars to support it, but it never risks showing the viewer something original or unique that they haven’t seen before. If you’re a fan of Akshay or Imran, only watch.
Rating – Three out of Five.
Overall, Selfie is a simple film with amusing scenes and solid acting. This can be an excellent option if you’re seeking a funny comedy to watch over the weekend. Thus the film receives a score of three out of five stars.
The movie was released in theaters on February 24, 2023. Karan Johar served as the producer and Raj Mehta as the director. The cast of Selfie includes Akshay Kumar, Emraan Hashmi, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and Diana Penty. After its theatrical run, this film will be available to stream on Netflix.
