Rebecca Ferguson’s Role in Dune: Part Three Slashed to a Single Scene
Denis Villeneuve nearly removed Lady Jessica entirely before bringing her back in a brief appearance for the trilogy’s grand finale

In a surprising update for fans of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune saga, Rebecca Ferguson has revealed that her role as Lady Jessica in Dune: Part Three will be extremely limited. The actress confirmed that her character, who played a pivotal role in the first two films, will appear in just one scene in the upcoming installment.
Ferguson also shared that Lady Jessica was originally not part of the script at all. It was only later that Villeneuve decided to include her in a minimal capacity, ultimately giving her a single scene. The actress described the experience as unusual, especially after being deeply involved in the earlier films, and admitted to feeling a sense of missing out as the narrative shifts focus.
This creative decision aligns with the source material, as the film draws from Dune Messiah, where Lady Jessica has a much smaller presence. The story is expected to focus more heavily on Paul Atreides’ reign and the consequences of his rise to power, while expanding the arcs of other key characters.
Despite her reduced screen time, Ferguson has expressed confidence in the script and the direction of the film, hinting at a powerful and emotionally layered conclusion to the trilogy. The narrative is expected to dive deeper into themes of politics, prophecy, and the cost of power.
Scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, Dune: Part Three is set to conclude Denis Villeneuve’s ambitious adaptation of the iconic sci-fi saga. While Lady Jessica’s limited presence may disappoint fans, the film promises a bold and compelling final chapter.
