Bradley Cooper Eyes Triple Role in ‘Ocean’s 11’ Prequel as Director Exit Shakes Up the Project

Margot Robbie remains attached to star and produce as Warner Bros. reshapes its long-developing 1960s-set heist film.

Warner Bros.’ long-awaited Ocean’s 11 prequel has reportedly undergone another major shift behind the scenes. Actor-filmmaker Bradley Cooper is now being considered to write, direct, and star in the upcoming film opposite Margot Robbie. The development comes after director Lee Isaac Chung exited the project due to creative differences with the studio, prompting Warner Bros. to search for a new creative lead to keep the film on track.

The prequel has been in development for several years and is intended to expand the world of the Ocean’s franchise, which became globally popular following the 2001 heist film starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon. That film, directed by Steven Soderbergh, went on to spawn successful sequels and cement the franchise as one of Hollywood’s most stylish ensemble crime series.

Margot Robbie has been attached to the project since early development and is also producing the film through her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment. The script, written by Carrie Solomon, is expected to take the story back to 1960s Europe, giving the prequel a glamorous period setting that aligns with the slick tone and high-stakes charm that fans associate with the franchise.

Bradley Cooper was previously rumored to star opposite Robbie, but the latest reports suggest his involvement could expand significantly if negotiations are finalized. If Cooper officially joins as director, it would mark another major filmmaking effort for the Oscar-nominated actor after critically acclaimed projects like A Star Is Born and Maestro, both of which showcased his ability to balance acting with directing duties.

The project has already seen several creative changes over the years. Director Jay Roach was originally attached to helm the film before Lee Isaac Chung stepped in and later departed in 2026. With Cooper now potentially taking over the reins, Warner Bros. appears determined to push forward with the prequel and finally move it into production.

While plot details remain largely under wraps, the film is expected to introduce a new ensemble of characters and an original heist story set before the events of the modern Ocean’s trilogy. The studio hopes the prequel will both honor the legacy of the beloved franchise and attract a new generation of audiences.
