Pierce Brosnan Teases Doctor Fate’s Return in Man of Tomorrow
The Black Adam star says he’s open to reprising Kent Nelson as hints of the character’s role emerge from James Gunn’s Superman reboot plans.

Pierce Brosnan has sparked fresh excitement among DC fans by suggesting that his character, Doctor Fate, could return in Man of Tomorrow, the sequels to James Gunn’s Superman reboot. Brosnan, who played Kent Nelson in the 2022 film Black Adam, revealed in a recent interview that he’s heard talk of Doctor Fate being involved in upcoming DC projects — possibly even getting his own series or appearing in the next Superman film.
Asked whether he would play the mystical character again, Brosnan affirmed his willingness, adding that he deeply enjoyed the philosophical layers of the role. The actor’s performance was widely praised, even as Black Adam itself struggled to make a lasting mark. His return could bring some continuity to the evolving DC Universe under Gunn and co-head Peter Safran.
James Gunn, meanwhile, has already teased Doctor Fate’s presence in his new DCU vision. In Superman, a Hall of Justice mural includes a nod to Doctor Fate alongside others from DC lore. Though Gunn has clarified that not all characters featured in the mural will directly appear in upcoming projects, he noted that some — including Doctor Fate — are already being explored in various ways.
Man of Tomorrow is set for release on July 9, 2027, with David Corenswet returning as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The film is part of a larger rebooted DC slate that includes Supergirl (set to release June 26, 2026) and the villain-focused Clayface (scheduled for September 11, 2026). Whether Brosnan reprises his role or the character is recast, Doctor Fate’s potential return promises to deepen the mystical side of DC’s new cinematic universe.
