Oscar Isaac Opens Up About Returning to “Star Wars” — But Only If Disney “Figures It Out”
After years of refusing to revisit Poe Dameron, the actor admits he’s open to returning — but not until Disney addresses what he calls its “fascist” tendencies.

Oscar Isaac is rethinking his stance on returning to the Star Wars galaxy — but not without conditions. In a recent GQ interview, the actor revealed he might once again don Poe Dameron’s flight suit if Disney can “figure it out” and stop “succumbing to fascism.”
The Moon Knight and Frankenstein star, known for his sharp humor, addressed his earlier quip about only coming back if he “needed another house.” Reflecting on that now-viral comment, Isaac laughed, “Yeah, that was a real likable quote. Jesus Christ. Y’know, people ask you things, you say stuff, you don’t really think about it that much. I said a slightly dickish thing.”
But despite his past reluctance, Isaac now says he’s “open to it,” clarifying that his hesitation lies less with the Star Wars story itself and more with Disney’s leadership. His remarks came shortly after ABC and Disney temporarily suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! following the host’s controversial remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk — an incident that reportedly influenced Isaac’s comments about corporate control and creative freedom.
Isaac first joined the Star Wars saga in 2015’s The Force Awakens, becoming a fan favorite as the fearless Resistance pilot Poe Dameron. He reprised the role in The Last Jedi (2017), The Rise of Skywalker (2019), and even lent his voice to the animated series Star Wars Resistance. Beyond the galaxy far, far away, Isaac has remained connected to Disney through his work on Marvel’s Moon Knight, where he also served as an executive producer.
In past interviews, Isaac suggested he’d only return to Star Wars for a truly great script and visionary director. This latest statement, however, shifts the conversation from creative to cultural — with the actor emphasizing that his participation depends on Disney fostering a healthier, freer work environment.
Oscar Isaac hasn’t shut the door on Star Wars, but the key to unlocking his return lies firmly in Disney’s hands. If the studio can strike a balance between creativity and conscience, fans might just see Poe Dameron fly again.
