Ajay Devgn’s Journey from Heavy Drinking to Mindful Sipping
After years of indulgence, the Bollywood star reveals how a wellness retreat helped him redefine his relationship with alcohol and embrace moderation.

Ajay Devgn has opened up about his changing relationship with alcohol, revealing how he moved from heavy drinking to a far more balanced lifestyle. In a recent interview with SCREEN, the actor candidly admitted, “Being very honest, I don’t hide what I do. I used to drink quite a bit.”
The turning point came when Devgn attended a wellness spa that encouraged him to give up alcohol for a month. That one-month break, he says, helped him reset both physically and mentally, inspiring a lasting change in his habits. Since then, the actor has limited his intake to one or two small 30 ml servings of malt with his meals. “It’s not even like drinking for me anymore. It’s like a routine which calms you, relaxes you,” he said, emphasizing how moderation has become a part of his daily rhythm.
Interestingly, Devgn has also shifted his preference to premium, limited-edition single malts, some costing around ₹60,000 a bottle. He shared that his focus has shifted from quantity to quality, saying he now enjoys the experience of a fine drink rather than chasing the effects of alcohol.
In a light-hearted moment on The Ranveer Show, Devgn revealed that he rarely gets high no matter how much he drinks, joking, “Mujhe jitni bhi pila do, peene ke baad chadhti nahi hai.” He also added that drinking should be a conscious choice: if one doesn’t genuinely enjoy it, it’s better not to drink at all.
Over the years, Devgn has been open about his efforts to prioritize health and stability, and his latest reflections show a mature shift toward mindfulness and balance. The actor’s evolution—from drinking heavily in his younger years to maintaining discipline and self-control today—serves as a reminder that true change often begins with small, consistent choices.
Ajay Devgn’s story isn’t just about cutting down on alcohol—it’s about discovering balance, discipline, and self-awareness. His journey proves that moderation and mindfulness can transform even long-held habits into moments of calm and control.
