Vijay Deverakonda Signs Two Big-Budget Films: Rural Mass Entertainer Rowdy Janardhan and Period Epic with Rahul Sankrityan

The Telugu star teams up with directors Ravi Kiran Kola and Rahul Sankrityan for two contrasting films — a rustic rural entertainer and a grand period drama backed by top producers.

Vijay Deverakonda is gearing up for an exciting phase in his career with two major projects that have already caught industry attention. The first is a rural mass-entertainer titled Rowdy Janardhan, directed by Ravi Kiran Kola and produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations. Set against the Rayalaseema backdrop, the film will showcase Vijay in a rugged, earthy avatar. Keerthy Suresh joins him as the female lead, marking their first major on-screen collaboration. The project officially went on floors earlier this month in Hyderabad with a traditional pooja ceremony attended by the cast and crew.

The technical team behind Rowdy Janardhan includes cinematographer Anend Chandran, composer Christo Xavier, and production designer Dino Shankar, hinting at the film’s grand scale. The shoot is already underway, with Vijay and Keerthy filming key scenes. The film is expected to wrap up next year and release in 2026, ahead of Vijay’s next ambitious venture.

That ambitious venture is a yet-untitled period drama directed by Rahul Sankrityan and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. The project, tentatively titled VD14, is being mounted on a massive scale and will reportedly feature Vijay in one of his most transformative roles to date. The film is set to take longer in production, involving extensive post-production and visual effects work, and is expected to hit the screens in 2027.

Originally, Vijay had planned to begin Rahul’s period film first, but given its scale and complexity, he has now prioritized completing Rowdy Janardhan before returning to the epic. Industry insiders suggest the move allows him to deliver a mass entertainer to fans sooner while carefully crafting the larger period project over the next two years.
With both films promising very different flavors — one raw and grounded, the other rich and mythic — Vijay Deverakonda seems to be making a calculated move to balance mass appeal with artistic ambition.
