The Batman: Part II Script Finally Complete — Filming to Begin Spring 2026
Matt Reeves confirms Robert Pattinson has received the polished sequel draft, Warner Bros. sets October 2027 release, while secrecy and tight scheduling mark the next chapter in Gotham.

After more than three years since The Batman’s March 2022 release, director Matt Reeves has confirmed that the sequel’s screenplay is finished — and the production is moving into full preparation. Speaking at the Emmy Awards, Reeves revealed that the team is “basically entering prep,” with filming scheduled to start in spring 2026.
The 2022 film was a major box-office success, earning over US$770 million globally. Since then, Warner Bros. and DC have been waiting for Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin to deliver what they believe is the strongest possible follow-up. Reeves admitted the delay stemmed from both personal reasons and a commitment to perfecting the story.
Robert Pattinson is officially returning as Batman, and Reeves confirmed that the actor has already read the completed script. Colin Farrell will also reprise his role as The Penguin, though his appearance is expected to be relatively limited this time.
Warner Bros. has locked in October 1, 2027 as the release date. Production was pushed back by several factors, including the 2023 Hollywood strikes, and Reeves’ determination to refine the screenplay to his satisfaction.
The script has been kept under tight secrecy, with very few people given access to avoid leaks. While fan speculation has run wild — from the introduction of Robin to the possible appearance of villain Hush — DC Studios head James Gunn has clarified that none of these rumors are based on confirmed details.
