Tamannaah Bhatia Lavishes Praise on Karan Johar for Championing Outsiders Amid Nepotism Debate
The actor applauds Johar’s warm inclusivity, strong female portrayals, and balancing glamour with responsibility, while he fires back at trolls labeling him “nepo kid ka daijaan.”

Actress Tamannaah Bhatia has heaped praise on filmmaker Karan Johar, commending him for supporting fresh talent—both from inside and outside of Bollywood—and for his longstanding sensitivity to female perspectives.
During an interview, Tamannaah described Karan as “extremely warm and welcoming,” stressing that he doesn’t limit his support only to those already in the industry. She lauded his consistent effort over “many, many years” to include outsiders in his work, and to build female characters with depth rather than stereotypes.
Tamannaah also observed how Johar has managed to combine the glitz of Bollywood with a genuine sense of responsibility. She said that despite working in glamorous setups, he continues to be the face of meaningful causes and holds his role in the industry with pride.
Amid these compliments, the debate around nepotism continues to shadow Johar’s public persona. He has frequently been criticized on social media, particularly after Kangana Ranaut labeled him the “flag-bearer of nepotism” on Koffee With Karan 5.
Most recently, Johar responded sharply to a social media user who called him “nepo kid ka daijaan” (“nanny for nepo kids”). Johar’s comeback was blunt and dismissive: “Chup kar!!! Ghar baithe baithe negativity mat paal! Do bachon ka kaam dekh!! Aur khud kuch kaam kar.” (“Shut up! Stop nurturing negativity from home! Watch the work of the two kids! And do some work yourself.”)
