Charlie Sheen Explains Why He Didn’t Personally Call Jon Cryer for Netflix Documentary

The actor admits outdated contact details kept him from reaching out directly, while praising Cryer’s “insightful and compassionate” reflections in aka Charlie Sheen.

Charlie Sheen has clarified why he didn’t personally ask Jon Cryer to join his Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen. Although the two starred together as brothers on the hit sitcom Two and a Half Men, Sheen admitted that he no longer had Cryer’s correct phone number. Instead, the film’s director, Andrew Renzi, contacted Cryer on his behalf.

Sheen revealed that after watching Cryer’s segment in the documentary, he was deeply moved by his co-star’s thoughtful comments. He even tried sending a message to thank him, but now suspects he may have sent it to an outdated number. “It’s not like Jon didn’t respond — he’s super responsible like that. If you’re reading this, Jon, DM me your new number!” Sheen joked.

In the documentary, Cryer reflects on Sheen’s turbulent years, suggesting that his struggles with addiction were rooted in low self-esteem and feelings of not deserving his success. Sheen said those observations resonated strongly, describing them as both “really insightful” and “compassionate.” He admitted that, despite his fame, he had long carried a sense of doubt due to his lack of formal education or training, often feeling like his career could collapse at any moment.

The Netflix project explores Sheen’s meteoric rise, his very public battles with addiction, and his infamous firing from Two and a Half Men in 2011 after clashes with CBS, Warner Bros., and showrunner Chuck Lorre. Cryer, who endured much of the fallout alongside him, offered candid reflections on that chaotic period.

Although Sheen and Cryer have yet to fully reconnect off-screen, Sheen’s comments show genuine appreciation for his former co-star’s honesty and compassion. Whether the two will rekindle their bond remains to be seen.
